Following are the eligibility criteria for GATE 2013 exam;-
1. Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Technology/ Architecture (4 years after 10+2/Post B.Sc./Post-Diploma)- Final year or Completedor
2. Master's degree in any branch of Science / Mathematics / Statistics / Computer Applications or equivalent- Final year or Completedor
3. Post-BSc Integrated Master's degree programs in Engineering / Technology (Four year programme)or
4. B.E/B.Tech equivalent examinations, of Professional Societies, recognized by MHRD/UPSC/ AICTE (e.g. AMIE by Institution of Engineers-India, AMICE by the Institute of Civil Engineers-India)- Completed section A or equivalent of such professional courses
Passed in the year 2012 or earlier: Degree Certificate / Provisional Certificate / Course Completion Certificate has to be submitted.
Expected to complete in 2013 or later: Certificate from Principal is to be submitted. Candidates who have to submit a certificate from their Principal, have to obtain a signature from their principal on a certificate that will be printed on the application PDF file provided only after completion of online application submission. Therefore, this cannot be scanned and uploaded online.
Candidates with backlogs:
Candidates who have appeared in the final semester/year exam in 2012, but with a backlog (arrears/failed subjects) in any of the papers in their qualifying degree should submit
A copy of any one of the marks sheets of the final year, OR
A letter from the principal indicating that the student has a backlog from an earlier semester/year to be cleared, and therefore cannot produce a course completion certificate now. This certificate will also be present in the last portion of the PDF application form provided to you after you submit application online.

**The criteria varies from college to college. General eligibility- A graduate with a minimum of 60% marks in their qualifying degree examination may apply.
**An entrance test is conducted which evaluates the candidates on their aptitude in:-
1. Mathematics: 10+2 level (Permutations and combinations; Set theory; Algebra and Matrices; Calculus and Analytic Geometry; Trigonometry)
2. Logical Reasoning: Test for general analytical and reasoning abilities.
3. Basic Programming: Basics of programming and C.
4. English: General English and Grammar.
5. Information Technology: General awareness of Information Technology - Computers, Software, and Internet.

To prepare for GATE exam you require the right approach along with the right study materials and strategy.
You need to know the content of the test, to ace it. You should be organized and follow a time-table.
Plan your preparation after knowing your strengths and weaknesses and take a diagnostic test.
