If circumstances permit you. I would refer you to go for a full time degree but not a correspondence. Since, the current competitive exams are asking only for a full time degree, it me push you into a zone of discomfort if your degree is through correspondence.

Bio-Medical Engg is a growing branch in India, even placements at IITs are less spoken of. With a degree in Bio. Engg, you will be able to get placements in pharmaceutical companies, R&D Institutes etc. And yes, it is good for girls.
