Hello Srihari, GATE is accepted by almost all of the government engineering colleges. The private universities conduct their own exams for PG admission and if you have appeared for GATE then they consider it, otherwise, they don't. So, private universities basically don't consider GATE score for PG admissions.

It is a good option. You must consider it given its small class size which will help you in directly connecting with the professors and also because of less number of students in a class professors will have more attention on the students.

If you're not interested in doing the engineering, then you may go for it. This is a good decision or bad one will be decided by your performance in future.
