Aastha, i would like to give you more inputs about the field of design. Design is a field that is age old and has been evolving every year like science. Sometimes student Artists are too much enamoured by Fine Arts preventing them to look objectively at Design. They must read this http://bit.ly/SXc9GD. Again like science it pays to be at the cutting edge. For e.g. science students do better if they go for CS or IT since that are areas where development is taking place rapidly. Similarly in Design the cutting edge areas are UID/ UXD, 3D Printing, Immersive Technology, Augmented Reality, 3D Projection etc, besides of course Game Design and Animation. At this stage, you may want to understand the creative world and the careers it offers. There are many careers for the creative/ artistic people. Interiors, textile as well as Web Design rely on the same skills - your layout skills and color sense. Journalism also is at this level and relies on your language skills and knowledge of history and current affairs. A little higher perches Graphic Design, Fashion Design, jewellery design, Acting, and Fine Arts which rely on one of your artistic skills - sketching and imagination. At a similar level perches VFX as well as Motion Graphics which rely on one of your artistic skills - Cinematographic skills and imagination. Then come careers like Animation, Film Making, Game Design which rely on multiple talents like your authority over sketching, acting, direction, voice, sound, writing, storytelling and problem solving skills etc. Any extra skill can be used in this. So it turns out to be one of the most challenging as well as satisfying careers. Sure not recommended for the weak hearted. The PGDM General and PGDM International Business accepts only CAT and GMAT scores. The cutoff of CAT was 75 percentile last year, and that of GMAT was around 600 to 620 for the PGDM General program, and was little less for the International Business.
So with 72.57 percentile in CAT, we cannot be sure of a call in the PGDM General program, but there are very good changes of a call from PGDM International Business program.
International Business program is as good as the General program. In fact they get an additional flavor of International exposure, which at a times help during placements. So go through the curriculum and judge whether you are feeling interested.
The PGDM Retail Management and PGDM Insurance Business Management accepts CAT, GMAT, XAT, CMAT and MAT scores. The cutoff of CAT and XAT was around 60 percentile. The cutoff of CMAT was around 200 out of 400, but that can vary heavily due to fluctuations in the CMAT difficulty levels every year.
If you are interested in Retail Management and Insurance Business Managment. They are good courses. And if you come here and work hard, you can get better placements than even the best students of PGDM General students.
Anyway, a general suggestion would be whatever scores you have in CAT and XAT, now focus on the upcoming CMAT exam, and try and get above 95 percentile which is not that tough a task. A lot of gates will open up for you. But then the next hurdle will start, that is of Group Discussions, Essay Writing, Personal Interviews etc.
Till CMAT don't think of any of these, but immediately after CMAT start working on your the Second phase of the MBA admissions as explained by me above.
