If the state is having provision of online admission as is the case in the Maharashtra than you have to give choice of 16 colleges. Most of the other state, colleges give admission in class XI directly, so you can apply for as many as colleges you want. Since the selection will be based on your % in class X, so try to apply in as many as possible to make sure that you get admission .
