The valor is CRL that averages at 165236 in JEE Mains, which in turn means that entry into the most coveted NITs or IIITs will be very difficult with popular subjects such as Computer Science. But nevertheless, you do stand good chances in other younger or lowerly ranked NITs to get less competitive areas of the branch like Civil, Mechanical, Chemical, Metallurgical or Bio-technology. Take NITs of North East (e.g. Agartala, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh) as an example, or other new NITs such as Hamirpur, Patna, or Srinagar. Short answer: No, not realistically.

Here's why:

  • You need to clear NEET for BUMS, no exceptions.

  • Just having 136 marks in PCB in 12th isn't enough. You typically need 50% in 12th (PCB) for general category and a NEET score of at least 144+ (even that's just the qualifying mark, not the admission cutoff).

  • For actual college admission (even private), NEET scores around 300+ are the real game.

What to do?
If you're serious about BUMS, take a gap year and prep for NEET again. It's the only legit way in.

In the case of Computer Science and Information Technology in Heritage Institute of Technology, Kolkata, the main admission rules are according to WBJEE and JEE Main ranks. Although the official 2025 cutoffs are not yet announced, judging by the past year trends (2023-2024), in General category, the closing ranks are generally 3,500-4,300 in CSE and 5,000-5,800 in IT. In case of JEE Main, the ranks corresponding to CSE will be approximately, 4,000-5,000 and IT, 5,000-6,000 (All India ranks). This is an estimated value with cutoffs possibly adjusted by the volume of applicants and regard to the test difficulty.
