GRE preparation may take around 3 to 5 months depending on your own caliber, convenience etc. It is good practice if you begin by taking a mock test, you will know where you stand and you can be your revision accordingly. Focus on areas where you need improvement, however, don't underestimate areas of strengths, these topics or areas will give you the scope to score higher. Take mock tests regularly before and after a revision. Good luck.
