The reputation of engg colleges are in 4 classes. IITs, NITs, Government colleges and then private engineering colleges. These reputation are important for campus placements and packages offered by the MNC companies. For example, Google, Abode and such companies only visit IITs. In private engg colleges, some are very reputed such as Manipal, VIT, Thapar group, BITS, GLA, Amity, JP etc. They also attract top MNC companies for campus placement. Companies like TCS, Infosys, Cognizant etc only visit those private colleges which are accredited by them. Majority of tier-1 companies do not visit those private engg colleges which have not passed out at least two batches.
However, for government, PSU and defense jobs these reputations have no meaning as they require only the degree which is from a AICTE approved college.
