For IAS you need to give UPSC exam for which it is preferable that you join a coaching institute for a period of 4 to 5 months. Self study is essential but guidance is always better for your own evaluation. Your studies should include GK, information on current affairs and logical reasoning. Try to discuss with fellow students.
