You don't prepare separately for IAS, IFS etc., but you prepare for a single exam I.e., Civil Services Examination (CSE)
Under this, you have to go through 3 stages. Candidates are eliminated at each stage.
1) Preliminary - Objective type test with 2 papers
General studies
Aptitude
2) Mains - 5 General Studies papers and 2 optional paper
3) Interview
If you want to join foreign services, you need to give IFS as your first option. You'll have to get a good rank to get IFS.
