*** To join IIT (B.Tech), you need to score 60% in Science subjects (PCM) and appear in entrance exam.
*** As far as the improvement exam is concerned, you need to appear in those subjects in which you didn't manage to score well. You may contact your school and board officials for specific and updated information regarding the improvement papers.
*** After appearing in improvement exam you will receive a mark-sheet which will be further considered while applying for any course or job.

Every institute has its own course specific eligibility criteria for admission, in order to know the exact eligibility criteria it would be always advisable to browse through the institute's website you wish to apply.
Overall, in order to pursue BBM, you need to be 12th pass, plus you need to take entrance test conducted by various institutes.
You may surely pursue BBM, if you did not had maths in 12th.
