UGC NET is conducted mainly to recruit research assistants and professors in various streams of education.
Qualifying Examination:
The candidates those who have completed their post graduation in related subjects from any recognized university are eligible for applying UGC-NET exam. The candidate must have a minimum of 55%.
Age Qualification:
The candidates appearing for JRF should not be above 28 years of age. The candidates appearing only for lectureship have no upper age limit. Age relaxation of 5 years will be given to SC/ST/OBC or physically disabled or women or visually handicapped.
***Any Indian citizen can appear for this exam. But they should have pursued the Master's degree as per the UGC norms. (Check the UGC website)

Salary depends on various parameters such as size of the organization, profile, qualification, experience etc.
But, still, to give you a brief idea,

Candidates with a postgraduate degree can earn initially within the range of Rs. 35000 to Rs. 50000.
With a Ph.D degree one can earn in between Rs. 50000 - Rs. 75000.

However, choosing between these must be done after seeing your performance in each of these. Typically you should have good sketching skills to be able to make a sound career in this (if you work hard you can improve your drawing skills tremendously). Nothing but your innermost talent and passion should lead you to the course and the institute you choose.
