It is good that you are concerned from 1st year about your future. It will certainly help you to make your career path clearer. First, you need to make it clear whether you want to stick to technical or move to management role.
For technical try for GATE. Start its preparation from 1st or maximum by 2nd year, just keep note of concepts and try solving conceptual questions. Take previous year papers and try solving them.
For management role you can write CAT, XAT, CMAT and MAT. For all this you need to sharpen your quantitative and verbal ability, again both needs practice. Also, try some decision making (DM) cases XAT asks questions of DM. Do read newspaper daily, keep in touch of day to day events in the world. You can start preparation of these exams by 2nd year.
If you want to go abroad for higher studies then write GRE/GMAT, its pattern is similar to CAT but questions are bit easy. This exam covers reading comprehension and essay writing.
If you are preparing for placement, you need to keep note of basic concepts of your core subjects and project you will do in your pre-final and final year.
You can also prepare for SSC/UPSC Indian Administrative exams. You need to sharpen your quantitative, verbal ability and general knowledge.
If you have an inclination towards joining Bank. You can write IBPS-PO/SBI-PO. Again they ask aptitude and verbal ability.

Well, you will be hearing contradictory remarks from a lot of people. It is best you get inside information from someone who is there. Email a few universities, get in touch with students and alumni, everything is available online nowadays.
For PR and jobs, let me clear one thing here - all international graduates are eligible for post study work permit. Look for a two years MS program for better possibilities of work and PR options. You must work for a few years and then apply for a PR depending on certain conditions like skill shortages, qualifications, market value etc.
Target a good recognised university having tie-ups with good organisations instead of enrolling into any random college.
