To take admission in Merchant Navy, you need to pass 12th in Science (Physics, Chemistry, Maths) with 1 year pre-sea training as a deck cadet.
You can also join it directly after B.Tech in marine engineering, mechanical, electrical, electronics & telecommunication, naval architect.
If you pursue B.Sc (Nautical Science) in the officer cadre, it will lead you to become captain after 5-7 years of experience.

To become an engineer you need to pursue B.E. / B.Tech :
- You need to complete 12th with minimum 60% (Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry) from recognized board to join good college. However, they are colleges which take students who have scored 45% - 50%.
- You need to appear in entrance exam.

Normally in NTU they look for a similar background. But in some UK university they accept Electronics students for course like MSc Aircraft Electronics and control.
