Yamini, being an electrical engineer, you have disadvantage compared to a CSE or IT engineer as far as development work in software field is concerned. However, big companies like TCS, Infosys, HCL, Cognizant or Tech-Mahindra is concerned, they take all branch engineers for testing, maintenance and ERP related IT work. To get selected in these companies, you will have to first clear a written test and then tech+HR rounds. For first step, you need to prepare aptitude, logical reasoning (verbal+ non-verbal) and C++ programming. For second step, you need to prepare technical answers and small C++ programs. Many of the attributes mentioned by Dr. Sudhiranjan regarding personality traits are required to be honed along with confidence and poise. I respectfully disagree with him same time that IT professionals work 14 hours a day. Normally, they work 9-10 maximum and 5 days a week. There are certain times of target completion which may require more hours of work but then that happens in all kind of works, including banking jobs.
