It involves knowing the maximum marks and the minimum marks scored by the students appearing for a particular slot along with the total number of students who appeared in this slot. As you can guess this information is available only and only with the body which conducts the exam. After such percentiles are calculated for each of the slots then and then only the ranking is found out.
