3 to 4 months are good enough to prepare for CAT exam, if you spend 6 to 8 hours daily in preparation. But, to be honest more than preparation hours, it is about the study material and your understanding.

Until 2015, it was possible to take direct admission in most of the private engineering colleges in India without appearing for any entrance examination. However 2016 onwards, Ministry of Human Resource and Development (MHRD) has made it mandatory to have a valid score in the respective entrance examination for every student, regardless of whether you take admission via counseling or direct admission.
