As stated by you, you are in the 1st year and still have two more years to go about pursuing this course. I would suggest you to concentrate on your course as of now and only after which you may then think about other options.
However, you can also think of preparing for the UPSC exams along with your graduation. The minimum eligibility required for this is a Graduate degree along with the maximum age limit not to cross beyond 30.

My cousin was joined for the same course in IITMK technopark. We searched a lot about the course. The term computational science points to very advance level of computing. The same name can be found in universities in Europe. Other than IIITMK we have this course in college of engineering trivandrum and thrissur engineering college. I am working in a company in technopark. IT companies can easily recruit talented students directly from IITMK. Students can also find fresher job quickly as they are in technopark itself. Syllabus covers computer programming concepts, rdbms, operating system, organization, networking, physics, chemistry, mathematics and statistics.
