Selection for GE-PI is completely based on your performance in the MICAT. Scores of CAT/XAT/MAT etc aren't given any weightage.
The GE-PI process takes place only on campus in Ahmedabad.

You can always go for private universities native to your place.
Almost all the Engineering colleges from south offer direct admission on the basis of your 12th marks also but on the NRI quota seat for that they demand huge amount which is unbearable.
Better to prepare for IIT or AIEEE Or any state level entrance test.by the way There are some college which offers admission on the basis of your 12th marks as follows:

Eligibility for the course AME is SSLC passed with 60% marks in physics, chemistry and mathematics. The duration of AME course is 4 yrs. Those who want to become graduate in this discipline may opt for Aeronautical Engineering course on successful completion of this course they will be treated as a graduate.
