As Rightly said by Mr. Nikhlesh there is no one book which you can refer to in Civil Service Examination For Preliminary round which will have two objective type papers which are the general studies paper and the General Aptitude Paper you would get questions from different areas so you have to read a lot of news paper informative magazines like CSR (Competition Success review) etc. this section will now test you more on decision making skills, logical and analytical abilities and the knowledge in the services in which you want to pursue your career rather than your subject knowledge. Since the preliminary exam is an elimination round the candidate should also learn to focus only on the information needed and filter out the rest.
For Mains you should start at least a year in advance. Just because you have to prepare for Essay, GS and the two optional you never get enough time (to prepare for all these) Further, it is on the basis of your performance in Mains, on which mainly depends the final outcome of your efforts. You should think about appearing in the Prelims only when you have had a strong grip over the Mains' subject matter.

This has details for admission criteria, course duration and fee, Course content, etc.
Application form can be obtained from Department of Statistics (campus of Science College) by paying RS.100/- from date 2nd Nov 2010 to 11th Nov 2010.
Last date for submission of application form 11th Nov 2010.
For admission entrance test will be held on 14th Nov 2010 at 10.30 A.M.

As far as fee structure or admission procedure is concerned it will vary from Institute to Institute but the fee structure would range between 8 to 10 lakhs. the admission for these programmes may happen in August but to have more specific information about these Institutes I would suggest you to get in touch with the institute directly.
