As per your query it seems that you wish to pursue MS degree from universities abroad.
So as per your profile since you are in 3rd year; you may start preparing for GRE test from 4th year.

No, its not worth to do technical courses through distance mode. Many of the students have wasted their money as well as time by doing technical courses through distance mode as their degrees got cancelled later on. You can take study leave from job. As you have a diploma so you can get lateral entry in B.Tech i.e direct admission in 2nd yr.B.Tech.There are many universities that are offering B.Tech lateral entry.
