50% of the students opting for mechanical engineering go for further studies. Some students with higher CGPA and other good records get placed in core companies. Many get placed in IT companies. Even many of the bright students get placed in IT. There could many reasons :
There are many many companies recruiting from MIT Manipal but the problem is what to choose, core company or IT company?
First of all take this very seriously, the life of an engineer at a production company is tough. I do not mean to scare you, but it is true, unfortunate

Traditional options:
1. Opt for Engineering. Most suitably go for IITs and other top most institutes through JEE.
2. You can opt for B.Sc in PCM as well after completing graduation, you can appear in any govt. job exam or you can opt for M.Sc
3. For M.Sc, you can go through IIT JAM Exam.
Unconventional Choices:
1. Graphics designer
2. Architecture
3. Games Designing or Animation.
4. Research in Computers and allied fields.
5. Join NDA and contribute in Indian Military forces.
6. Merchant Navy

Cutoff are the minimum marks, which a candidate has to score in the entrance exam for participating in counselling, admission and seat allotment procedure. In 2016, Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) did not conduct the entrance exam, rather it is admitting students on the basis of their marks in JEE Main 2016. Candidates have to fill the application form of JEE Main 2016 and JMI Admission Application Form 2016 for admission in the University. The last date of application form of JEE Main 2016 was December 31, 2015 and the same for JMI was January 31, 2016. JMI Cutoff 2016 has been declared according to the result of JEE Main 201

You have almost reached the completion stage of your Diploma in mechanical engineering & now wish to do something in IT. Right? If you have done class 12th then you can seek admission in BCA. If not then perhaps another Diploma in branch of your choice. There will be many institutions that can give you training in some specific SW programmes. If you do this then too you can get some job.

Placements in IIT are on a different level. Prospective employers take on graduates of IIT on their overall perspective and hence almost all are placed at the end of the cycle. Though as per the report, last year, 10% graduates at IIT Delhi could not be placed last year.

Some universities do accept engineering as the eligibility for admission to M.Sc courses. If your intended institute is accepting it then you can go ahead. But I would advise you to go for executive MBA of one year in one of the IIMs.
