Yes, Sikkim Manipal University is recognized by University Grants Commission (UGC), Ministry of HRD. It is also a member of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) and recognized by Distance Education Council(DEC).
But in January 2013 Distance Education Council Posted a notice showing the Recognition Expired.
But SMU DDE has commenced admissions to all approved programs pursuant to the Order of the Hon'ble High Court of Sikkim (in WP No. 4 of 2013) dated 22.2.2013, by which the Hon'ble Court has permitted the University to continue acting in terms of earlier recognition, namely, recognition dated 15.10.2009 granted by DEC.
