About B. Des. : Bachelor of Design is a degree given in the field of design. It is an undergraduate degree that offers many specializations from which interested students can select the one best suited for them according to their interests. This course comprises both theory and practical work which includes workshops, fashion shows, etc. Students who are passionate about fashion and have good painting skills can opt for the B. Des degree. About B.FTech : The four year course in Fashion Technology is aimed to develop industry ready professionals who are trained to understand the fundamentals of apparel business and to effect change in
order to match the dynamism of business scenario. From the semester I to semester V, all students are oriented towards the fashion industry, apparel production technology, pattern making and garment construction, apparel production management, apparel quality management and introductory courses in Fashion marketing, retail management, applications of artificial intelligence, technical textiles, entrepreneurship, database management for apparel business and industrial engineering among other subjects. The eligibility criteria of both the courses are different. The B. Des can be done by any student who completed his 12th in any stream. While PCM subjects are must in 12th for B.FTech course. The B. Des course comes with many specializations so the career scope for B. Des is according to those specializations. Candidates pursuing B. Des can also opt for the following jobs after completing the course -
Fashion designer, Graphic designer, Art designer and Product designer etc. While B.FTech is a combination of fashion and technology, students can opt for careers in both the Fashion Industry or Fashion Technology. Some of the popular job profiles that students can pursue after B.FTech course are Technical Artist, Fashion Merchandiser, Pattern Grader, Fashion Designer and Fashion Consultant and Fabric Quality Control Manager etc. So both of courses have the different application areas and curriculum. The number of seats for B. Des courses in NIFT are about 2862, while 518 seats are for B.FTech. So my choice is B.FTech.

Due to its placement record, I have chosen this college. The placement record is very strong at this college, according to me, and about 80 to 85 percent of students are put in large companies such as Google Infosys, Microsoft, Amazon, etc. We have an active career support team office that is exclusively made available to serve our carriers better. They also carry big companies who bid 6 to 7 Lacs per year, which can go up to 15 Lacs per year, to do the internship for the final placement. The school's technology is really strong and the whole college is provided by Google's full Wi-Fi and live lab. This college is the best in this selection, from my point of view. Here, in nature, the faculty members are also very strong and the greatest knowledge they have. They always encourage us to enhance you, and here study materials are provided with a fully online mode, which is very good to access anywhere you want at any time. And the greatest thing I like is 75% attendance is obligatory if you don't. The education standards match the best in the industry. Here students are allowed to be a part of every important activity, for eg there is a Board of Studies which studies and approves/improves the course content and syllabus this is like any other university, but in CU students are a part of BOS this is unlike any other university. Students opinion is also included in upgradation of their course content! Infact, this year for the CAB (Corporate Advisory Board) Meeting, for the first time, students handled 80% of all the activities. Chandigarh University is completely a student centric university. Student teams are a part of several important decision making sessions and interact with their Club/committee faculty co-coordinators, Dean Students Welfare, HOD and directors on a regular basis. Infact, student representatives give a formal feedback to the Honble Chancellor of the university directly. This is a level of freedom and transparency which is unique to Chandigarh University only. This is simply because the student comes first student is above all circumstances or eventualities. Many of us are not accustomed to this frankness and inclusiveness at our homes also you have to be here on the campus to be able to feel the sense of ownership. Usually websites of educational institutes post the square footage of an institute, the number of buildings, the metalled roads, the number of classrooms and computers all this and much more already exists on our CU website.
