There is separate admission procedure for students from states other than Tamil Nadu (Tamil Nadu). There will be an open advertisement in newspapers (may be not all over India)or you can constantly check the Anna University website where the admission notices start to display from March/April for the consequent year. You can apply online through the web portals once they are made available. Selection is mainly through single-window counselling system based on your High school (I. e. 12th or junior college according to your state)marks when studying under 10+2 system in India. They see your Pcm mark aggregate (generally called Cut-off mark in Tamil Nadu) out of 100 with having
Physics- 25%
Chemistry- 25% &
Math- 50%
They are ranked based upon the cut-off marks and called for counselling mostly at JULY based upon their ranks mostly through intimation in Website (may be mail). Around150 seats reserved for other state Quota students distributed across CEG, MIT, ACT and SAP ( they are collectively called as university departments). Based on merit and as per first come first serve basis they can choose their preferred course from the available at their time/slot of counselling. Following are some of the major differences between both the courses:
1. The students pursuing B.Com will have a study programme that will have the overview of all the subjects in the course field. The subjects taught to students in both these programs will be same. But, those pursuing a degree in B.Com won't be able to specialize in a specific subject unlike those pursuing the degree of B.Com (Hons). Final year students of the B.Com (Hons) programme can chose to specialize in a particular subject like that of accounting, finance, economics etc.
2. The admission for both the courses is done on the basis of class 12th board results. The only difference being the cut-offs of B.Com (Hons) is much higher compared to that of B.Com courses. In some very prestigious colleges of Delhi University B.Com (Hons) is a very sought after course and the cut-offs sky rocket each year in colleges like Hans Raj, SRCC, Ramjas and others.
3. B.Com Courses don't have a very high market value unless and until a student pursues some business course like MBA or M.Com. Whereas, B.Com (Hons) being a specialisation course it offers better opportunities and good packages. It is highly valued by business industry.
4. Students have a lot of job options after pursuing a degree in B.Com but the salary packages arena't very lucrative. Freshers can expect salary packages up to Rs.14,000-20,000 per month. Whereas, for those from B.Com (Hons) course they have quite a good salary packages offerings.
