A Deck Officer begins his career as a Deck Cadet. During the Pre-Sea Training the deck cadet will be prepared for the Nautical regulation and will ultimately be responsible for the Navigation. Cargo handling maintenance and other associated duties on board a Merchant Navy Ships. After specified periods of intervening sea service on board a ship which will progress to the rank of Captain. The Career in Merchant Navy as Deck Officer is very rewarding both financially and also in job satisfaction, you get to see the world, meet different people enabling your to broaden your horizons and all totally free.
During training the cadets will be taken round the port and docks to have an elementary knowledge of the Merchant Navy port, dock, ship operations and will be given chance to visit and look at various foreign flag vessels arriving in Indian ports.
All cadets after completing the pre-sea training need to obtain trainee - ship / apprentice ship with one of the foreign shipping companies to complete sea time required for 3rd mate / 2nd mate officer examination as the case may be. The sponsorship is often activated before commencement of the course.

ELIGIBLITY
Applicants who are:
I) Indian nationals; and
II) (a) graduates of a recognised Indian university with a consistently good academic record; or
(b) students in the final year of the degree course; or
(c) mid-career professionals upto the age of 45 years, planning to go abroad for further research, specialisation ortraining
At the time of submitting the completed applications, candidates need not have the admission / award letters from the universities to which they have applied for the academic year .
HOW TO APPLY?
Prescribed application forms will be available from the Administrative Office of the Endowment at Mulla House, 51 M.G. Road, Fort, Mumbai 400 001
The application fee of Rs.100/- can be paid in cash or by a Money Order on which the full name and address is to be mentioned to enable the Endowment to send the form.

Hi Mohanraj,
To pursue PhD you need to first prepare your research proposal and send it to the university. The research proposal must include a summary of the proposal and then the proposal in detail. You need to write the topic, reason for doing research, how the research will be beneficial to the community and the university, what is the different thing you are doing that hasn't been undertaken earlier. Also, include how you will progress during the research and the duration you might need to achieve the milestones you have set. If the university accepts your proposal you will be asked to send in your documents after which you will get the offer letter. Then meeting all the requirements you can begin with the visa process. To approach a University you must contact the dean or the professor at the University and ask them if there is any research going on. Because its always not mentioned on the University's website whether the research in your field of interest is going on or not.
