For the top Maharashtra engineering colleges such as VJTI, COEP, and SPIT:

CSE: Aim for 99.5+ percentile (roughly 160+ marks in many exam shifts).

AI/AIML: Aim for 99+ percentile (around 145–160 marks).

Mechanical: Around 97–99 percentile is often competitive, depending on the college and category. 

Yes, direct admission is possible in some private engineering colleges, but it depends on the college and seat availability.

For AISSMS College of Engineering, Pune:

The institute primarily admits students through MHT CET and JEE Main via the Maharashtra CAP counselling process.

If seats remain vacant after the CAP rounds, the college may fill them through the Institute Level/Management Quota as per Maharashtra admission rules. 

AISSMS offers a B.Tech/B.E. in Robotics and Automation, which started in 2022. 

For D.Y. Patil College of Engineering, Akurdi:

Admissions are also mainly through MHT CET/JEE Main and CAP counselling.

Institute-level admissions may be available for vacant seats after the CAP process, subject to eligibility and college rules.

If your priority is B.Tech CSE (Core) and you have to choose only between these two universities, I would recommend Brainware University, Kolkata.
