It depends on the country. In US it does not matter which board you are from. In UK SAT is not required. Similarly, every country would have different requirements.

Hard water is simply water which has calcium and magnesium salts dissolved in it which makes it difficult to form lather with soap. While washing with hard water and soap these salts precipitate as scum and stick to the cloth. Using detergents makes it easier to form lather.
Soft water is water free of Ca and Mg salts and forms lather easily with soap.

These days, admission is only through CET or JEE. The only other way is to bid for management quota for direct admissions.
