The basic criterion of eligibility needed to be met for admission to the course is a Higher Secondary (10+2) or equivalent qualification from a recognised educational Board, with Physics, Chemistry and Biology as main subjects and a minimum aggregate score of 50%.
B.Sc. in Genetics: Admission Process

If you have interest in design more than engineering, I don't see a reason why you can't pursue the course. Although you might face some difficulty to fulfill the admission criteria because some of the institutes prefer to admit students from design background only. Please check the eligibility criteria of the colleges that you are interested in, before applying.
