Having work experience is not mandatory to pursue MBA from any IIM or non-IIM in india. However, it is always beneficial to have it as significant weightage is allotted to it by the various B-schools during their admission processes. So yes, it does play an important role.

In case you have substantial work exp., I would suggest you to try for PGPX programme of IIM A. It catapults your career from lower management cadre to mid-higher management cadre within a few years provided you take the right turns and choices. In case you have less than 3 years of work exp., I would suggest you to pursue the PGP course of IIM A.
