No, Its not. Its completely fine if you can find an alternate accommodation. But i would suggest you use the hostel facility as it is very near to the college and it gives you more convenience during the course.

Yes, a student who did his/her education from distance is also eligible for PGDM, but they have to clear the MAT/CMAT/CAT exam whichever is accepted by the institute in which they are planning to get admission, also different institutes have their respective selection criterea like group discussions-personal interview etc.

If you get into IIMs, you should not worry about package offered. There are a lot of companies that come to campus and do not get any student to interview because every one is placed by then. Also it does not depend on if you are a fresher or have work experience. However to answer your question, it is always more than 12-14l per anum.
