For getting admission in IIT Madras, you have to attend JEE Mains exam and then if you have qualified you can go for JEE Advance exam. If you will qualify this exam with a fine rank then only you will get into IIT Madras. There is another way that is IIT JAM through this also you can get into IIT Madras. If you want to know more I will tell you because my best friend is studying in IIT, Guwahati through IIT JAM only.

Thapar University expected cut off is obviously less than IITs and NITs but not that much less. It would safely be upto GATE score of 450 to 500 and above. There is a separate entrance exam if all seats are not filled through GATE.
You should apply for that.

According to me, electronics and communication engineering is the best branch because in this branch you can go for IT companies as well as government jobs, IES exam, etc. If you are an ECE student, you have a broad field of opportunity more than CSE or any other branch.
