The following details aim to present a succinct picture of placements at JGBS as on 31st July 2013.
a) Total batch strength: 65
b) Eligible for placements: 58
c) Self Employed/Entrepreneurs: 08
d) Students looking for placements: 50
e) Total offers by companies: 54 (Final offers) + 5 (internship track)
f) Total acceptance of offers by students: 42 (Final offer) + 3 (internship track)
Average Salary: INR 5,10,201/-; Median Salary: INR 4,50,000/-; Highest Salary: INR 13,00,000/-
The average salary this year represents a significant rise (26.87%) from the average salary last year and this is a significant achievement for JGBS and JGU alike. Major organizations where our students were placed through University include; ICICI Bank, Dabur, Axis Bank, Fortis Healthcare, Havells, HT Media, JSPL etc. The sector-wise break-up of the placed students has been presented in figure 1, whereas figure 2 presents the job role break-up for the placed students.
Interestingly from a sector-wise perspective healthcare in the form of Fortis Healthcare has been a very fertile ground for us consistently and we need to back it up in the form of electives in our second year curriculum. In my personal opinion we need to appreciate their contribution by inviting the HR team of Fortis Healthcare to our campus and establishing a regular contact with them.
Digital media/e-commerce and IT/ITES have contributed around 30% to overall placements although we have still not been able to break through the big Indian four (Infosys, Wipro, TCS, HCL) for recruitment purpose. This needs to be taken up with urgency as this could go a long way in establishing a strong industry interface and enhancing the image of JGBS among most companies in the sector.

One of the most significant achievements for this year has been our students breaking through FMCG major Dabur and electrical consumer product company Havells. We need to repeat this performance consistently and further need to add more consumer durables company in our fold. Almost ~50% of our students have been employed in roles related to sales and marketing and we need to be mindful of this trend while thinking about future placement opportunities as well as our course offerings related to sales and marketing

Please remember in order to pursue full time MBA or PGDM program you need to be graduate in any field with atleast 50% marks in graduation, plus you need to take various management entrance test like CAT, MAT, XAT, SNAP, etc.
However as per your profile I would suggest you to work for 2-3 years after completing your B.com and then opting for MBA, the advantage of this step would be that after working for few years you would know which specialization to opt in MBA that can further enhance your career prospects, however as per your profile pursuing MBA in finance would be the best option for you.
This work experience of yours would give you competitive advantage over other candidates with no work experience during MBA admission.
Finally if you work for some years then you may yourself manage the expenses for your further studies.
Please note that, the final selection in MBA or PGDM program is made on the basis of:
1. Education background of the students.
2. Score in various management entrance test.
3. Performance in group discussions and personal interview.
4. Work experience if any.
After completing MBA in finance you may look out for exciting careers in banks, financial consultancies and financial institutions.
You may get involved in consumer and investment banking, institutional finance, merchant banking, corporate finance and international finance.
A good experience in this field can also lead you to serve on government committees and contribute significantly to policy-making issues.
You may also end up providing consultancy services to corporate and government organizations.
