Yes, your son's OBC-B certificate will be accepted during counseling for WBJEE. The WBJEE authorities will only consider the category that you have mentioned in your application form. So, if you have mentioned OBC-B in your application form, then your rank will be considered as OBC-B for counseling.

Your son's rank in general category is 6999, but his rank in OBC category is 541. This means that he has a better chance of getting a seat in a good college if he chooses to take admission under the OBC category.

It depends on Institute where you study.

If you study in top notch Institutes like IMS Goa, MERI, Tolani etc., you will get placed.

In many other institutions, it's really hard.

You'll also get placed if you study in Institutes like Anglo eastern maritime academy, Samundra institute of maritime studies etc. also as they are run by shipping companies who have their Ships and they place the students on their ships. The best shot is Anglo eastern maritime academy. Getting incide AEMA is like a rat race. The competition is so hard.

On the other side, if you study in other Colleges, it's really hard to get placed as there are already plenty of marine engineering graduates and mechanical engineers who did their pre sea training looking for ships. Getting placed is so hard.

Many shipping companies are starting their own institutes. So, its going to be hard for outsiders to get into those companies.

If your rank is less than 5000, you can still be admitted to Delhi Technological University (DTU) for a BTech in Computer Science. The precise rank needed for admission, however, may differ from year to year and may also be contingent upon the engineering specialisation you are interested in.
