I actually recommend you read problem solving books first, ("Problem-Solving Strategies" by Arthur Engel). It has nice explanatory sections along with tons of problems, with solutions as well. The combinatorics section should be of particular interest. If your background is not strong enough for this, I recommend taking a look at the Art of Problem Solving books (Vol 1 and 2).
Afterwards, you can check out specific books related to combinatorics if you want, although to be honest most of my discrete math knowledge has come from working through problems in problem-solving books. Also, it helps if you try to constantly think in
