Scope of Biotechnology for B.Tech students:
Any student who is contemplating on pursuing a career in Biotechnology must be aware that this field is still developing in India. Therefore, the number of job openings and pay packages are both very low when compared with IT and CS fields. After a B.Tech degree, students can find jobs in pharmaceutical companies, research labs and institutions in India. However, most Indian students tend to go abroad to pursue their Masters or doctorate studies in Biotechnology and allied fields. Some students also shift to MBA and enter the world of business, finance and banking as their engineering background gives them the required quantitative skills to excel in these sectors. Also, many students shift to software through on-campus placements. Talking about on-campus placements, since the number of job openings is very less in Biotechnology, the number of companies coming for placements will be very less. Also, core companies only hire students from universities such as IITs, NITs etc. If your university is not reputed nationally or state wise, chances of any biotech or pharmaceutical company coming for placements sessions will be close to nil. Since this field is highly research oriented, vast and diverse, it is highly recommended that students pursue their graduate studies in Biotechnology, Biomedical sciences, Biological sciences, Bioprocess Engineering etc.

Well, you can get a NIT college, but any NIT, any branch depends on various factor like:- (I) Your caste :- yes, Getting a good NIT in 170 marks is highly depends on your caste whether you are SC ST OBC or General category. SC and ST students can easily get a good NIT and may be Top NIT. OBC students also can get a good/moderate NIT but it is difficult for General category students. (ii) Your state quota:- It is also a barrier to get a good NIT. You know, there are 50% reservation for home state students in any NIT so lucky student (who residing in that state in which having a good NIT college) will get more chance to admit in their home state NIT. (iii) Exam paper difficulty level: - As anyone can guess with a score of 170, your rank should be 18k -25k. But the exact rank will vary on the paper difficultly level. Therefore as much as good rank will create highly chance to admit in Top NIT.

With 31 k rank in general category you can't expect a good college. Even if you get a good college, you may not get your desired branch. I will say you to leave JEE rank and focus on study in which college you are currently study. You have already wasted 2 year for JEE. Don't waste three. You are going to read the same material in NIT/ IIIT. Life will always throw you various opportunities. So leave this, and wait for good opportunities. Be with that private college and prepare well. One thing keep in mind that good college will not give you high package job. How deep you know about your skills that is required. So master the skills. Good luck.
