Do understand that unlike other government institutes (read IITs/NITs), IIM's do not take any form of monetary support from government. Hence, the complete expense of the education is born by the students itself rather than the tax-payers of India.

Mining is not everyone's cup of tea, when it comes to career. Coal India Limited, Tata Steel, Rio Tinto (Australia/ India), Electrosteel, Vishakhapatnam Steel, Monet Ispat, Vedanta, HZL, HCL, etc. offer great opportunities to mining engineers.
Though, you will be paid handsomely, but you will be working in remote areas.
