Future of biotechnology:
How many of your family members exactly know about Biotechnology? Forget family members how many friends know about this field? Now I think you got the answer, this field is still unknown in our country. So we are discussing about the future of the field which even after more than 20 years in India have not been implemented at that level that it'll reach the common man. Although if you'll discuss about the outcomes like jobs in this field:
R & D of Life sciences companies and Pharma companies do need people of this field but some of biotech jobs still taken up by chemical engineers and B.Pharma people. Patent searching companies do need B.Tech/ M.Tech/Graduates/ Postgraduates in biotechnology for their life sciences teams. Academics which is the major sector for jobs in this field or any other field (Like JRFs, PhDs and scientists).
State councils of Science and Technology do have researcher positions. Environment organisations do have positions for government funded projects. Some of major private research companies also have jobs for biotech people.

The Department of Chemistry at Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology (SMIT), SMU was established in 1997 and it offers MSc (Chemistry) and PhD (Chemistry) courses. The department also provides fundamental courses to B.Tech first year students like B.Tech engineering chemistry, B.Tech engineering chemistry lab and environmental science.
The department covers all major areas of chemistry, viz inorganic, organic and physical chemistry. The MSc syllabus which is comparable with all leading universities / institutes caters to the intellectual aspirations of the students and they are exposed to the latest in the field. The students have the opportunity to take specialised courses of their choice (Medicinal Chemistry, Biophysical Chemistry, Chemistry of Nanomaterial, Polymer Chemistry, Bio-inorganic Chemistry and Supra-molecular Chemistry)The Department of Chemistry has successfully organized a two (02) day conference on Recent Trends in Chemistry in collaboration with Association of Chemistry teachers Homi Bhabha Centre for science education Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR)Mumbai 400088 during 17-18 February 2017.The Department of Chemistry has also successfully organized a two (02) day "Science Academies" Lecture Workshop on "Emerging trends in Chemistry and its pharmaceutical applications" during 30 - 31 October 2017. This workshop was sponsored by Indian Academy of Sciences, Bangalore; Indian National Science Academy, New Delhi and The National Academy of Sciences, Allahabad.
*The lab is well equipped to conduct under graduate engineering chemistry experiments.
The major equipments includes pH Meter, Conductivity Meter, UV-VIS Spectrophotometer is used to verify Beers-lamberts law, Redwood Viscometer, Potentiometer, Central Exhaust System, LPG connection, Water Distillation setup, BOD incubator, COD Reflux system, etc.

Eligibility for B.Sc zoology:
The minimum eligibility criterion for a student to take admission in B.Sc zoology is that the candidate must have studied physics, chemistry and biology in class XII and should have attained a minimum of 50% aggregate in 10+2 examinations. There is no eligibility percentage for Distance/Correspondence mode of education.

Admission Process:
The admission is based on the cut-off list issued by the university or college. The major admission process is only on the merit basis. A few universities like Banaras Hindu University also conduct their Undergraduate Entrance Tests (UET). Admissions are made according to merit in the entrance test, subject to fulfilling of eligibility requirements. The process starts in the month of May. The first step is to duly fill the admission form. It can be either online or offline depending on the institution. The admission to Bachelor of Science in Zoology is based on the marks attained by the students in class XII. Most colleges and universities release cut off lists after the students have filled the admission forms. If the aggregate percentage obtained by the student in the class XII examination satisfies the cut-off criterion issued by the college, he/she shall be granted admission based on the merit list. Bachelor degree in Zoology can also be awarded through distance education mode. There are a number of colleges and universities in India that offer bona fide education in Zoology through distance or correspondence mode.
