Yes you can although the ideal option will be to stick with your domain as it will give you better opportunities. At the same time, it is very important that you opt for or look at doing something that you are good at and would enjoy keeping in mind your personality, aptitude, ability, strengths and career goals.
If at all, you want to switch over, go ahead and pursue a career in journalism.
Becoming a journalist can be a fun and rewarding job, but getting that job starts with a good education and a desire to work hard. If you are committed to become a journalist, I may suggest you with the following steps:-
1. Choose the right college: an accredited school that not only offers journalism degree, but a place to practice your craft.
2. Decide which type of journalism you're going to pursue: Journalists work in all types of media including newspapers, magazines, photo, television and online.
3. Get an internship: it will provide real-world experience and give you an in at at least one media outlet.
4. Start networking: Go to different journalism conventions and job fairs throughout the year.
5. Put your name out there: As you're trying to break into the field, send your resume and work to various media outlets across the country.
6. Talk & Discuss with your faculty about the prospects of this career.
