Dear Hari, SAMS college is a superb option for mechanical engineering. Since, they run marine/merchant navy courses, their lab and workshop set up are much better that are actually needed for mechanical engineering.

Since you haven't mentioned your rank, so I am probably guessing you have scored very low marks. I am sharing a list of few engineering colleges/universities where you can apply and get admission in course you want to pursue:
UTM Shillong (Campus of MIT Pune)
LPU Punjab
UPES Dehradun
