Students aspiring to be Chemical Engineers need to understand one thing very-very clearly that merely chemical engg degree is not sufficient for a good career in the present business scenario. In the past it used to be. It is still better for other core engg subjects, but not with chemical engg because in the chemical manufacturing and product development fields there is tough cometition from Science post graduates (in chemistry). Employers get post graduates in chemistry at lesser salaries. In very large organization they do keep chemical engineers at the shop floor but then the work responsibility gets limited to operation of the plants and the career is then more or less capped. For fresh chemical engineers it is therefore essential to pick an industry which is like a one-man show and then take control of every aspect of the business concerning that industry. This is mighty difficult. So candidates aspiring to be chemical engineers needs to do something else also later. MBA is common and may be done. But added to it must be a specialization in process simulation field or M.tech or PhD in a chemical engineering related topic (for example: fluidazation) or develop skills to enter the marketing field. If you talk only of scope then yes, scope is there but the returns (remuneration etc) are not that good unless a candiates carves out a special niche for himself/herself. Yes while doing chemical engg one gets exposed to many aspects of other engg topics. That is one benifit of doing chemical engg.

The portals of KIAMS are open to Graduates (at least a three year bachelor's degree from a recognized university) in any discipline with an aggregate of 50 percent or more marks. Candidates appearing for the final examination for the bachelor's degree can also apply, provided they complete their degree course prior to the commencement of the PGDM programme.
ADMISSION PROCESS
Admission to the 2-year PGDM is based on scores in the Common Admissions Test (CAT) conducted by IIM's , Xavier Admission Test (XAT) by XLRI. Common Management Aptitude Test (CMAT) by AICTE.
The short-listed candidates will be drawn up based on CAT/XAT/CMAT percentile, sectoral scores, graduation results etc. They will be called for Group Activity, Group Discussion and Interviews at one of the centres- the KIAMS campus at Harihar and Pune, as well as number of other cities like Bangalore, Hyderabad, Kolkata, New Delhi, Baroda, etc as notified in the admissions form.
