Because you have already applied for the Talati exam so in my opinion you have to attend the exam for gaining the experience, Further you have to strongly focused on your engineering line and start your preparation for GATE exam. If you have completed Masters in any of the subject you can apply for the UGC NET Exam. The eligibility to appear in the UGC NET exam is as follows:
There is no age limit to appear in the UGC NET Exam and to apply for the lectureship programme.

Generally, it is said that MAT December scores have a better impact than September MAT. If you are looking for really good colleges with better ROI, I would suggest you to appear for other competitive exams. Also I would suggest you to retake MAT December or February. You will get good colleges like IISWBM in Kolkata or Christ College in Bangalore.
