This depends on the selection policy and the level that you apply for. Some airlines will require some customer service experience. This can be in any type of situation that brought you into contact with the public in some capacity. Usually, if you can demonstrate in your interview that you are aware of and can perform effective customer service, you are considered qualified. However if you apply for a senior post of a flight pursuer etc then experience is a mandate.

As a crew member you would not require to personally apply for any visa, as this would be taken care of by the concerned airlines as they would be deciding on your fleet chart.
Generally when Pilots and cabin crew go for an international layover (flight duty which results in a night stop) they carry a "General Declaration" and passports.
GD is a company paper which declares how many crew members are traveling with their details such as DOB,Passport no., nationality with Captains sign . It acts like a visa and they don't get any other stamp on their passport.
It all depends on the laws of the country that the crew is visiting.
