Biodiversity is crucial for maintaining the functioning of ecosystems, providing essential ecosystem services such as clean air and water, soil fertility, and climate regulation. It also plays an important role in the cultural, aesthetic, and recreational values of human societies, as well as in the development of new medicines, foods, and other products. However, biodiversity is currently facing significant threats from human activities such as habitat destruction, pollution, overexploitation, and climate change, leading to the loss of species and ecosystems at an unprecedented rate. Preserving biodiversity is therefore essential for the long-term sustainability of life on Earth.
