Eligibility criteria varies from university to university. Some, like University of Hyderabad, demand a degree in economics to apply for a master's degree while other colleges like DSE & UPES also lets B.com graduates and people with Maths, Statistics etc. to sit for the entrance. DSE and UPES are best bet open for you for MA Economics. Both of these are very good for Economics. This year 100 % batch got placed through campus recruitment in UPES. No, its not compulsory to pursue Masters degree in dual degree course. You can check on the terms & conditions of the admission process. The only advantage here is that after graduation one need not get into the hassle of preparing & appearing for CAT and going through the entire process of seeking admission a fresh.
In a recent policy decision the UGC has also said that they are not in favor of such dual degree courses that are run by institutes & that such course don't stand as recognized courses.
