There are four core branches of engineering i.e. mechanical, chemical, civil and electrical. Each of these branches has developed into specialised sub-branches. The number of engineering degrees available has increased dramatically. For example, electrical engineering is further divided in specialisations such as electronics, instrumentation, telecommunication, computer Science, information technology, etc. Mechanical Engineering also has specialisations such as production, aeronautical, etc. Chemical engineering is further divided in petrochemical, polymer technology, etc. Civil engineering is divided in material Science and engineering, construction engineering, environmental engineering, geotechnical engineering, transportation engineering, etc. Nowadays, there are a few multidisciplinary engineering such as biotechnology, mining engineering, medical electronics, bioinformatics, mechatronics, automation, etc.
You can choose any branch based on your interests.

Eligibility:
For admission to the program, the candidate must have passed in Class 10th with minimum aggregate 50% including all subjects from a recognised school.
The candidate must be pass in Class 12/QE with a minimum aggregate of 50% in any stream from a recognised school. Candidates awaiting results of HSC examination can apply too.

The admission forms of the colleges are available between the months of May and June. An eligible candidate can follow the process given below for admission.

You must complete you Bachelor degree before you can enrol into a CA or CPA program in Canada and must fulfil the per-requisities. The major education providers for CA or CPA in Canada are:
Atlantic School of Chartered Accountancy and Atlantic Regions
CA School of Business for British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and the territories
CPA Ontario School of Accountancy for Ontario Region
Professional Education Program of the Ordre des comptables agrs du Qubec for Quebec Region

Dropping more than a year is not considered beneficial considering the level of competition that has evolved in every sector of the corporate world. If you could not score good enough in GATE, you could try appearing for other entrance examinations. Different states conduct their own entrance examinations for admission into private colleges in the respective states like OJEE in Odisha, WBUT in West Bengal, PGECET in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka etc. Besides certain private universities like SRM University, KIIT University, VIT University, GITAM University conduct their own entrance examination. You could try for these as well. On a personal note, I would not recommend dropping another year for GATE preparation.
