It is not a very well known engineering college in the country or in the state or in the city. This is mainly because it is being recently started. The faculty in the departments are pretty decent but not very great. I have heard that focus on research is good in some departments like mechanical and automobile, but is really bad in some core departments like Electrical. Placements are not that great.

It depends if you have sat for entrance tests and scored good enough to get into a government institute. Else you can always get into a private college for the degree.
You can also drop a year to prepare for the entrance exams and get into a reputed government college. The choice is yours.
