Candidates who are interested to join this course have to write an entrance test that is held by the various universities and autonomous institutions like the IITs. The admission to the IIT is by the Joint Entrance Exam. The admittance to the other institutions is done by their own separate exams in addition to other national and state level exams.
The selection of the students into different universities for the postgraduate courses is done through an All India Combined entrance Exam that is carried out by the Jawaharlal Nehru University. The entrance to the Indian Institute of Technology for the 2 year Masters course in biotechnology is done by the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering.
