NIT Durgapur admissions are primarily entrance-based. Candidates need to first apply online for the course of their choice. They need to register for the entrance exam required for admission to the specific course. Once completed, the candidates need to appear for the entrance exam. JEE Main is required for BTech, GATE for M.Tech and IIT JAM for MSc admission. For MBA, aspirants need to appear for national-level Management entrance exams such as CAT, MAT, CMAT, etc. Once done, counselling is held for each programme and seats are alloted.

For NIT Durgapur M.Tech admission, candidates must apply for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering. GATE is an online national-level examination conducted for Master of Engineering (ME), Masters in Technology (MTech) and direct PhD admissions to IITs, NITs, IIITs and other institutes/universities across India. The exam is scheduled between February 4 and 12. 

NIT Durgapur CSE average package offered was INR 21.45 LPA in 2023 placements. It was INR 18.24 LPA during 2022 placements indicating an increase in the package. Besides, The 2023 placement session concluded with 84.66% of the BTech batch placed. A total of 187 companies visited the campus offering 746 job offers to BTech students. The NIT Durgapur average package for BTech stood at INR 13.62 LPA and the highest package offered was INR 70 LPA. 

NIT Durgapur admission to the MBA programme is based on CAT/ CMAT/ XAT entrance exam scores. Based on the entrance exam scores, candidates are then called for the Written Ability Test (WAT), Group Discussion and Personal Interview (GD & PI). Given below is the minimum eligibility criteria for the course along with NIT Durgapur MBA fees: 

Candidates need to pass Class 12 (Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects and Chemistry/Biology/Biotechnology as an optional subject) with at least 75% aggregate to apply for NIT Durgapur BTech admission. Aspirants must hold the documents proving their eligibility for verification at later stages of admission. Besides eligibility, aspirants must also qualify JEE Main followed by JoSAA Counselling to get a seat in BTech programme.

NIT Durgapur offers UG, PG and PhD courses across various streams. These courses include a four-year BTech, two-year MTech, two-year MSc, MCA, MBA and Ph.D programmes, among others across various specialisations. BTech is the flagship course of NIT Durgapur. The entrance exams accepted by NIT Durgapur are JEE Main, GATE, CAT and CCMT, among others. The duration of these courses ranges between 2-5 years.

Candidates must have passed the 12th standard with a minimum of 50% marks to be eligible. The gateway to this undergraduate degree is through entrance exams HPCET or JEE. HPCET is a state-level exam conducted by Himachal Pradesh Technical University for BTech Admission 2024.
