This year, the IPM entrance exam has 3 sections- A multiple-choice Quantitative Ability (40 qns, 40 min), a short answer Quant section (20 qns, 40 min) and a Verbal Ability section (40 qns, 40 min). You get 4 marks for a correct answer and one negative mark for a wrong one. As the quant section is based on Maths you learn at higher secondary level, you are likely to be familiar with the theory. Accuracy, time management, the ability to choose the right questions to answer, the ability to look out for the catch in the question, the ability to eliminate wrong choices to choose the right answerthese are some skills you need to hone to become exam-ready. Focus on practicing as many section-wise tests and mock quizzes as possible. Concentrate on some specific topics like Permutations & Combinations, Functions, Number Systems, Polynomials and Inequalities. The verbal section has questions such as para jumbles, reading comprehension, identifying a missing sentence in a paragraph and vocabulary-based questions. To do well in the written ability test and to get interview-ready, make sure you read the newspaper everyday, so that you are well informed on the hot topics of the day.
